Class One

History - Japanese Karate

Japanese karate, hard, straight line system,

Funakoshi Shotokan, Oyama, Demura

Self Defense

1. Review Front Choke Defense - 5 each with partner

2. Review Interlocked Bear Hug defense5 each with partner

3. Review Wrist Escape5 each with partner

Warm Up

1. Pushup /Crunch alternating – 30 seconds each for two rounds.

2. Teach/review 1-8 blocks

   a. Wide sweeping open vs 1-2 block

   b. ½ speed Jab vs 3-4 block in movement

   c. Cross to body vs 5-6 blocks

   d. Front kick vs 7-8 blocks

   e. Sidekick vs 9-10 blocks

Skills/Drills

1. Review Chop

2. Review Ridge Hand

3. Teach Palm Heel & Groin Grab

   a. Demo on targets 

   b. Front hand, rear hand

   c. 10 Chops on target Down, Across, Up

   d. 10 Ridge Hands Front hand, rear hand each

   e. 10 Palm Heels Front hand, rear hand each

1. Teach Back Leg Side Kick

2. Skip Side Kick 10 each side in air

3. Skip Side Kick Step Back Defensive Side Kick 10 each side in air

4. 1-2 Back Leg Side Kick

5. Side Kick Gauntlet

Circle student with numbered shields. Each has a number. Instructor calls out the number. Number steps with the shield. Student side kicks the target.

Cool Down

1. Form a circle with students facing the center

Alternating

2. Three Sets of 15 slow push-ups & 20 crunches

3. Stretches until end of class

Class Two

Self Defense

1. Teach Time, Place, Method of Attack (TPM)

Warm Up / Teach/Review Foundation Skills (Set The Stage)

1. Pushup / Crunch alternating – 30 seconds each for two rounds.

2. Teach / review 1-8 blocks

Hand Strikes

1. Review Chop

3. Review Palm Heel & Groin Grab

a. 10 of each with a partner to vital targets

Skills/Drills

Jab-Skip Side Kick 10 each side on a shield

Skip Side Kick Step Back Defensive Side Kick 10 each side on shield

1-2 Back Leg Side Kick on shield

Slow Motion Side Kick

10 seconds out and 10 seconds back. 10 each side.

Cool down

1. Form a circle with students facing the center

2. Alternating 3 Sets of 15 slow push-ups & 20 crunches

3. Stretches until end of class
