Important points regarding front kick in self-defense.

Pre-COBRA, like many martial artists, I taught and lived by the classic martial arts “front kick in the groin” theory.

Then COBRA founder Chris Sutton told me that, “It doesn’t work like you think it does.” This video from a kids’ self-defense class bears that out.

They were taught the front kick to the groin and “tiger claw” to the face. Not to imply the instructor is not competent, but just to illustrate a true myth buster.

From Chris Sutton: “As a police officer, I interviewed countless victims who used or attempted to use this technique. Most were beaten senseless and a little worse. In every case, it did not stop the criminal’s main objective whether it was theft, rape, or anything else.”
