Why Facebook is Great for Marketing Your Martial Arts School 

In the 1980s, I had my own Cable TV show called, USA Karate. That was the single most effective marketing tool I’d ever seen up until the launch and growth of the Internet.

This was long before the 500 channel options we have today. USA Karate aired three days a week for a decade. I had a lot of viewers. It was not unusual for me to be recognized in the street and sign autographs for fans of the show.

Enrolling students was extra easy because they had already taken lessons with me on TV. The local media looked at me as a colleague and invited me on their own TV shows and did many profiles of me and the school in the local papers.

As good as it was, I still had no control over who watched the show. Still, it was WAY better then Yellow Pages and newspaper ads. With the Yellow Pages and newspaper ads, you paid your advertising fee and hoped that someone who had an interest in learning karate would see the ad. You had little or zero control over the demographics that you reached.

The promotional power of TV has shifted not just online, but to two specific platforms; Facebook and YouTube. YouTube gives you the platform to become your own mini-broadcasting studio. For martial arts, that is ideal.

With Facebook, you have more power than ever to reach a specific audience that you can define with demographics and psychographics.
