Class 1
How to Set S.M.A.R.T. Goals
Progress Not Perfection
- S.M.A.R.T. goals is a way to help you set and achieve your goals.
- SMART stands for Specific, Motivating, Achievable, Relevant, and Trackable.
- Let's break them down.
- Specific
Your goals should be clear and written down. Use specific language and include the exact date by
which you plan to achieve your goal. For example, "I will earn my black belt by December 31st"
or "I will run 3 miles every day by July 1st." - Motivating
Motivation gives you the "why" behind your goal and helps you persist through difficult times.
Write down all of the reasons that motivate you to achieve your goal so that you can remind
yourself of them when things get tough. - Achievable
Your goal should be realistic. No one can fly to the moon without a rocket. So, while it's
important to aim high, make sure that your goal is something that you can actually accomplish. - Next class we'll cover the other two keys to successful goal setting.
- Got it? Good! Let's get to work!.
