For most of these, you will probably not do much, but we want to make sure you are aware of all of the annual events that YOU CAN TURN into a media and community marketing opportunity. 

Continue to stoke the fire for all of your contacts, year-round. Just make sure your focus is on the good that the special day, week, or month offers your community than your offer.

4 Weeks Out – Email your past and present students, along with prospects, media and local organizations that you will be doing something to promote a special event in this month. Offer specials, partnerships, demo opportunities, media interviews and in-class promotions.

3 Weeks Out – Send media release out and / or write articles for local media outlets (newspapers, corporate newsletters, local papers, etc…). Articles can be inspiring stories about your students, tip, nutrition, self defense etc…

Every Month

Create Corporate Partnerships (at least one per month)

Get at least one Corporate account that will promote Empower Kickboxing to their employees as a health benefit. See if they will:

a. Promote your offer in all of their communication channels. You can't be salesy. It has to be professional, but it works.

b. "Pay" for a portion of the classes as a benefit for their employees.

c. Let you write an ongoing column in their newsletters both online and offline on self-defense.

d. Contact complementary companies and create a strategic partnership for co-promotions and cross discounts.

Example might be a massage clinic. You give them gift certificates branded with their company gifting their new client a free trial course at your school. In turn, you do the same for them.

January is National Blood Donor Month

Make sure you alert the media and arrange for the blood donor bus to come to your school and:

1. Offer a free class or week of classes for anyone who gives blood.

2. Offer current students a free t-shirt for giving blood.

National Days

1st New Years Day (Host a NYE Workout)

Invite anyone to join in. Post it in the “Events” area of your local media.

2nd National Motivation and Inspiration Day

Create an exercise and nutrition plan for the next three months and give it to your students

2nd National Personal Trainer Awareness Day

Offer private training for half off

4th World Hypnotism Day

Invite a hypnotist specializing in weight loss to lead a group weight loss hypnosis seminar

7th Weigh in Day (Always First Monday after New Years)

Two weeks ahead, encourage your members to set goal weight for this day. Create prizes for those who meet or exceed the goal. Talk about the power of leveraging your goals. When you announce your weight will be 178 lbs on February 7th, your motivation to hit that goes through the roof.

Make sure you and your staff lead by example.

8th Show and Tell Day at Work

Encourage your members to wear your shirt and / or take their gloves into to work with free passes.

This is a busy month for networking and public speaking because there are so many health related opportunities.

March Focus: Education

American Red Cross Month

Invite the local Red Cross to do a blood drive in your school. They provide all the equipment, the staffing, and they’ll even do some advertising for you! It’s a true win-win and should be good for media coverage as well.

You get increased traffic into your health and fitness center while at the same time you’re also providing a much needed service for the Red Cross.

You could also host a fund-raiser for the Red Cross this month.

National Nutrition Month

A great fit for Empower Boxing™ clubs. Offer to visit your local school(s) and be a guest speaker in their gym class, physical education class, or classes related to nutrition.

Be sure to send a press release to the media and also prepare a letter or note for the students to take home to their parents. Make it an educational paper, not a promotional flyer but it’s still okay to include your contact info.

  2. Walk America / March of Dimes (4th weekend)
  • Participate, as a school, in the Walk America event with everyone in Empower Kickboxing™ apparel.
  • You can step it up by purchasing special t-shirts for the walk – put your Empower Kickboxing™ logo in a prominent place on the shirt and give one free to every member who takes part in the event.
  1. National Public Health Week. Promote free training during this week. It’s just a new angle for the same offer of a free week.
  2. Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Promote seminars specific to sexual assault. We suggest you look strongly at Cobra-Defense for this.

  1. National Best Friends Day- Bring a friend class
  2. International’s Yoga Day – Invite a local yoga school teacher to lead a seminar on yoga for your students in exchange for teaching a self-defense seminar at their school.

  2. National Nurse Practitioner’s Week: 3-9
  3. Thanksgiving. Host a workout the day after at your school or in a park. Encourage your students to bring friends.
