Strategy Generators
The Strategy Generator is a problem-solving and planning tool for producing dramatic results. The brain naturally presents information about obstacles that oppose our vision and goals. The Strategy Generator makes use of this information to create the strategies necessary to achieve these goals. It consists of these simple steps:
1) Identify Your Project
The Strategy Generator has a number of different applications, for issues both large and small, personal and professional. Identify a project that needs planning or an issue that needs resolving.
2) Determine the Goal
Set a goal that identifies what you want to have happen. It should be specific, measurable, and achievable.
3) Set the Timeline
Write in today’s date so you hare a starting point for your project. Then choose your target date. What is a realistic timeframe in which you can complete this project? Remember that there are no unrealistic goals, only unrealistic deadlines.
4) Determine the Result
What will the results of achieving this goal look and feel like? How will this impact you and the others involved? Creating a picture in your mind will not only give you a clear sense of what it will be like when you have achieved this goal, it will act as a great motivator.
5) Define the Obstacles
Determine the specific obstacles to reaching your result and list them in the obstacles column. Again, it’s important to be specific.
It’s natural to want to ignore or avoid any negatives regarding your goals; however, obstacles actually provide key information necessary for the successful completion of the project.
Obstacles can be things like a lack of time, money, knowledge, support, and resources. Obstacles can also be emotional; for example, fear or anger. Sometimes several obstacles are solved with one action, but it’s still necessary to identify each obstacle separately.
6) Transform Obstacles Into Strategies
For each obstacle, determine a strategy. Sometimes one strategy will address several obstacles and some obstacles will require more than one strategy. For this reason, it’s important to define all obstacles before moving on to the strategies.
